Sustainability
Powered by renewable energy. Driven by responsible racing.
At Raceworld Indoor Karting, we are committed to operating in a responsible, sustainable and community focused way. Based at Greendale Business Park, we benefit from locally generated renewable energy, alongside ongoing improvements to efficiency, waste reduction, safety and community support.
Our sustainability commitment
Sustainability is an ongoing journey for Raceworld. As an indoor leisure and business events venue, we recognise the importance of reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, supporting local suppliers and creating a safe, inclusive and positive workplace.
Our approach is practical and honest: we focus on improvements that make a real difference to our venue, our customers, our employees and our local community.
Turning poo into power at Greendale
Raceworld is proud to be located on Greendale Business Park, where renewable electricity is generated locally using Greendale’s anaerobic digestion plant. In simple terms, natural farm materials are turned into biogas, which is then used to generate electricity for businesses across the site.
It might sound unusual, but it is a brilliant example of local farming and local businesses working together. Cow poo, crops and rainwater help create renewable electricity, with the remaining digestate reused as natural fertiliser for the farm.
Find out moreHow the anaerobic digestion plant works
An anaerobic digestion plant is a special system where organic matter is broken down by naturally occurring bacteria in a warm, dark, oxygen free chamber. This produces biogas, which can then be used to generate electricity.
This creates a sustainable loop: farm materials help generate power, the heat is reused, and the remaining digestate can be returned to the land as natural fertiliser.
Recent environmental improvements
We have invested in infrastructure that improves customer comfort while reducing unnecessary energy use.
Energy efficient extraction
Our modern extraction and ventilation system improves indoor air quality while operating more efficiently than older systems.
New skylights
New skylights bring more natural daylight into the venue, reducing the need for artificial lighting during daytime operating hours.
Efficient lighting
Energy efficient lighting helps reduce electricity consumption while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for customers and employees.
Energy and resource efficiency
Waste reduction and responsible disposal
Supporting local suppliers and Devon businesses
We believe sustainability is not only environmental. It is also about supporting the local economy and building strong, responsible partnerships.
Community and social responsibility
Employee wellbeing and workplace culture
Our team is central to the Raceworld experience. We invest in training, safety, wellbeing and team culture so that employees feel supported and customers receive the best possible service.
Future improvements
We know there is always more to do. Over the coming year, we will continue reviewing opportunities to reduce energy consumption, improve waste management, support local suppliers and strengthen our positive contribution to the Devon visitor economy.
We will continue working alongside Greendale Business Park to maximise the benefits of locally generated renewable energy, while exploring further opportunities to reduce our environmental impact through improved efficiency, waste reduction and future technology.
Our ongoing commitment
Raceworld remains committed to making practical, measurable improvements that benefit our customers, employees, local community and environment.
